Un grand retour en force pour Kelly Slater (USA) auteur de trois victoire de la Billabong Pro Tahiti.
C'est le tahitien Heiarii Williams qui affrontait le redoutable concurrent qui l'avait battu au premier tour. Repêché au second tour, Heiarii passe en tête dès sa première vague notée 7,77. Loin de dire son dernier mot, Kelly Slater enchaîne trois vagues et reprend l'avantage.. Il ne reste alors plus que 6 minutes à surfer lorsque Heiarii Williams score une superbe vague 7,87 et reprend la main sur son adversaire. Mais à moins de deux minutes de la fin de la série, l'américain surfe une vague notée 8,8 dépassant au score son adversaire de neuf dixième de points. Heiarii Williams est éliminé.
Dans la 4ème série, Slater fera face à l'Australien Adam Melling.
